The zoo

So…what do you do when you are supposed to be preparing a talk to give in church on Sunday? Oh, you actually start working on it? Wait, and you wouldn’t go spend the day at the zoo either?

And lastly, you wouldn’t be updating your blog about your adventure (that you obviously didn’t take because you were responsibly writing your talk)? That is such a good idea! I’ll remember to do that next time.

But when you have a little girl begging you to go, what is one to do?

Okay, so maybe it was more like Kyle and I dragging her along, but it was definitely time well spent.

First of all, Kyle touched a shark!

There was this shallow pool of about 20 dog sharks (I know, explain that one to little kids trying to learn the differences between animals.)

You just had to wait patiently until the chomping end swam passed and then you could pet their fin part.

I touched them too. And Avery…well, as posted earlier, she did what she does best.

There were 3 varieties of penguins there.

A pile of lemurs.

A giraffe with a leg that appeared to be broken, but could walk with no difficulty.

And a bunch of elephants; even a baby elephant about the same age as Avery.

It was an extremely warm day!

And eventually we found some much needed shade.

And Avery slept.

Kyle was very excited to see the lions.

And, of course, then had to be a lion (with gum.)

I've always fancied the rhinoceros. They are big, tough, and have a huge horn sticking out of their face. Definition of cool right there.

Avery wanted to see the monkeys.

And probably still wants to see them.

They even had an exhibit where you could run and see how your speed compared to a cheetah.

And as all you postpartum women know, as soon as you deliver, you are in the best tip-top shape of your life. I mean look at how fast I look!

Kyle decided to make friends and pet the cheetah.

Avery wasn't too thrilled about having the sun in her eyes, but also got a picture with the cheetah.

Haha, I love that girl and I LOVE that face.

The take home message I learned from the zoo was that warthogs are pretty gross,

porcupines don't look anything like they do in cartoons,

bats are pretty cute,

Avery is just getting more and more darling,

and if you start with two bows on a hot day,

one will fall off,

soon followed by the other.

  1. SO cute! How do you get her little bows to stick? Do you use syrup of some kind...?

  2. We went to the zoo when we were supposed to be writing talks too! It must be the thing to do. You guys got to see a lot more animals than we did though!

  3. Lindsay, your blogs are hands-down the funnest to read. What a great zoo, too. It reminds me of the Philly Zoo, which we definitely got a lot of mileage out of. And that girl of yours is cuter all the time.
