Thankful for the little things in life

Hah! I bet from that title you thought this would be a post about all the small things (Blink 182 anyone?) I'm grateful for. Not so faithful readers! Although a great idea, it's 5 days after Thanksgiving, so clearly it'd just be inappropriate for me to whip out a gratitude list. Maybe I'll grace you with one next year...

Instead, here's a picture of Avery and me (and a cleavage full woman) at Claire's.

What are we doing at Claire's you ask? Just sitting on a chair next to a sterilized table...

And having an employee at the store come towards us with gloves...

And having that employee sterilize Avery's ears...

AND GET THOSE EARS PIERCED!!!

I know. THIS IS HUGE!

It all went really smoothly. Yes, there was some crying.

But fortunately there was a camera to distract her, and within two minutes Avery was her normal self.

Really what inspired this is that my 15 year old sister did not have her ear's pierced. She's wanted to get them done, but was nervous about the whole thing hurting. This got some wheels turning in my head.

If Kels had a buddy to get her ears done with, the whole process would be easier on her. Plus, Avery wouldn't have to ever be scared about getting hers done if we did them now. Win win right?

And she did look extra cute on Thanksgiving making this a win win win. That's hard to beat.

Happy Thanksgiving from the girl with silver earrings (which sounds like it belongs to the series of "The girl with the dragon tattoo", no?)

Once upon a time...

Once upon a time there was a bald baby...

a very cute baby...

but a very bald baby nonetheless.

Her mother would adorn her head with bows,

and headbands,

and hats

in an attempt to help strangers know whether the bald baby was a she or he.

Then, one day, the baby began sprouting hair!

And one fuzz at a time,

a beautiful dusting of hair appeared.

And there was much rejoicing by all!

The End

Scrub a dub dub

A sequence of events: bath time with Avery

It started like any other bath time. My darling baby was placed in the tub and immediately looked even cuter!

Vitamin D drops were administered per pediatrician recommendation.

And clean up promptly followed Avery's COMPLETE rejection of the drops. Like I said, it was a routine bath time.

Avery was given her favorite toy block.

Which, of course, ended up in her mouth.

Raspberry noises were made.

Legs kicked out some splashes.

And all faces got wet.

I then needed to run downstairs for something. It was a sad parting.

Luckily, trusty Dad was there. I knew Avery was in good hands.

Upon my return, all things looked well and normal.

That is, until I noticed the top of my baby's head!

I always thought I was going to be the one to bring out the wild side in my child. Apparently, Kyle has had different plans.

Fortunately, a good rub on the head from the hoodie towel removed all evidence of the incident.

I'm actually quite excited to see the new hairdo Kyle comes up with next bath time.

Try, try again!

Apparently the video I tried to post yesterday didn't work for a few people. Thanks Kristin and Kelsey for the heads up! Here's take two!

Do you ever feel the need to take your anger out on an inanimate object?

What about playing with a big fluffy dress?

Or maybe both within a 24 hour period?

She may look docile, but now all of you have seen her other side!

Halloween

For the first time, I actually have documentation of an event in our lives.

I know, BIG!

Perhaps you haven't noticed, but most of my posts are usually about the ordinary "day in the life" of (mostly) Avery,

(sometimes) Lindsay,

and (every once in awhile) Kyle.

I think we just enjoy our company too much or are too absorbed by whatever activity is taking place to even think of snapping pictures.

Or it could be laziness...or lack of knowledge of where the camera is...or the piece of tape that is holding our camera together has disintegrated...BUT I think (or at least hope) it's mostly because we are having a blast.

So with that said, here is the latest and greatest in our household.

We carved pumpkins! Now I don't know about all of you, but carving pumpkins was a frigid experience in Michigan. We had to do it in the garage, on the hard cement, in 30 degree weather during family night. I remember having a frozen bum and hands after gutting the thing. Needless to say, my jack o'latern was lucky to even get a nose.

Nowadays, I am allowed to do it indoors on my own kitchen table! Oh the joys of growing up! Plus Kyle even gutted my pumpkin!

Kyle always shaves his pumpkin to give it an artistic flare. I think his is downright spooky.

I just hacked away at mine. All the pieces of the spider web may or may not be connected to the actual pumpkin.

And my pumpkin may have shriveled up long before its debut on the porch. *Sigh*

This year we joined up with our neighbors and decorated our porch!

Nothing too involved, which is the way I like it. Plus, how cute is this little green wonder?

And how about this first time Halloweener?

We then told Avery about our plans to go to the Zoo.

She must have been excited! After all, I don't think she's ever been awake for more than 5 minutes of it, even though this is our fourth trip.  Kyle and I donned some hats (as a nod to Halloween)

and off we went to our much loved zoo! Avery started out wide awake, full of energy and overflowing with great faces.

but quickly fell asleep...

and by the looks of these pictures, may have even "given up the ghost." :)

But, fortunately our daughter was (and is as a matter of fact) alive and doing well, so we continued with the festivities.

May I introduced you to our little Miss Tinkerbell!

And how can you have a Tinkerbell without a pirate?

And how can you have a pirate without having...wait for it...

the surgeon who gave that pirate a hook? I know, impressive!

Plus, I bet you didn't know that Tinkerbell can beat up on pirates with the best of them.

All in all, a successful Halloween!
