Boating

Sheer awesomeness!

Yes, my glitter toes are amazing! But, as incredible as they are, the question I pose today is this.

Is there anything more fun (funner?) in the world than

(a) being in water

(b) during a hot summer

(this picture works for "during a hot summer" right? Because the car is hot from being in the sun...so it had to go in the lake to cool off...what, you think that is weak?...fine...how about my hot sister in the reflection of the car? Yeah, pretty good!!)

(c) while being pulled by a speeding boat

(d) with family?

My fearless father

My marvelous mother

My super sister

My brilliant brother

My handsome husband

My content child

And Myself

Being only a 6 hour drive from my hometown definitely has its perks!

While boating, we tried out a kneeboard. Kyle picked up on it really quick, and was a pro at it!

Ben was awesome too!

 I...struggled

What am I talking about? I was incredible!

And Avery was also excellent. She was doing flips and twirls the whole time! When we finally got her to get back in the boat she was so tuckered out she went to sleep in the shade.

I'll have to snap some photos of her in action next time! :)

That's what little girls are made of

Sugar and spice
and everything nice
that's what little girls are made of

Sunshine and rainbows
and ribbons for hair bows
that's what little girls are made of

Tea parties, laces
and baby doll faces
that's what little girls are made of

How much changes in 2 years?

These are pictures we took at the Denver Museum 2 years ago:

And these are pictures we took at the Denver Museum last month:
Really all that’s changed is this Yoda addition:
Poor child! She has no idea what she got herself into coming to this family.

First time for everything

Sometimes, when you do something the first time it goes exceptionally well.

Like the first time you take your baby to church (which she was a perfect angel)

Other times, the first time you do something it is delicious.
Like the first time you take that baby out to eat, and it’s at Jason’s Deli with her great grandparents.

Sometimes that first time is dark and windy.
Like the first time you take your baby on a 2+ mile walk to watch fireworks from the missionary field on the Fourth of July. (Yes I’m aware there’s a burp cloth on my baby’s head. Like I said, it was gusty and I was afraid all her heat would get blown away!)

And other times, it is just like heaven.
Like when that little baby is blessed by her daddy and she wears the dress you were blessed in!

At times, the first time you do something it can make you sad (even if you know it needs to happen.)
Like the first time your baby get shots.

But, there are still other first times that are simply beautiful!
Like the first time you go on a hike as a family of three.

Some of the first times can exceed your expectations.

Like going to your first movie with a baby under 2 months old AND SHE SLEEPS THROUGH THE WHOLE THING (and did you really expect us to wait until the last Harry Potter movie came out on video?!?)
And sometimes, the first time you do something you look cool.
Like when your dad puts shades on you.
Other first times you just have to get creative.
Like when you are changing a baby’s diaper after she spits up all over you and the seat of the car on a 20+ hour car ride.

And lastly, some first times are the beginning of a new life.
Like the first day your husband goes to grad school in a city neither of you have ever lived in.
BRING ON THE FIRST TIMES!

(Side note, does this flow like a children's story? I thought I could add this post of "First Times" to our collection of "Harry by the Sea" and "Caps for Sale." Just a thought.)
